Michelin Star, the dream of any cuisine professional!

Michelin Star

The Michelin Star is perhaps the most coveted award by restaurants around the world. The Michelin Guide recognizes what is best done, across the cuisine, by attesting to the quality of restaurants worldwide.

Winning and keeping a Michelin Star is the dream of many cuisine professionals. Although some trends tend to devalue this award, achieving it is still a synonym for the recognition of a work of excellence.

What is the origin of the Michelin Star award?

Michelin is the brand name of a well-known French tire producer. At the beginning of the 20th century, Michelin launched its first itinerary, with the best restaurants. The aim was to encourage trips on French roads, aiming to visit the awarded establishments.

It was from 1926 that the guide began to assign Stars to the prominent restaurants. Firstly, the highest rating was a Michelin Star. Later, in 1931, they were awarded between one and three Stars to the best restaurant spots.

Who are the Michelin inspectors?

To this day, the process by which restaurants are evaluated is maintained. The so-called Michelin inspectors gather teams of mystery shoppers who determine food quality and service across the establishments.

These inspectors are professionals passionate about gastronomy. It is thought to be about 80 in the world. The evaluation of a restaurant is done anonymously and according to several criteria, little known. It is known, however, that the most important point of their appreciation is the quality of the dishes.

Portugal in the Michelin Guide 2019

The famous Michelin Gala took place this year, for the first time, in Portugal, in the city of Lisbon. In this edition, there were three new entries of Portuguese restaurants for the famous Guide. A Cozinha, in Guimarães, Pousada G, in Bragança, and Midori, in Sintra, are the new ones.

There are already 20 national restaurants, scattered all over the territory, awarded with one Michelin Star. Portugal also has six restaurants holding two Stars:

Costa Verde prides itself on being present across several restaurant spots recognized by the Michelin Guide. Each product is thought of as a solution that allows the best performance of the hotel and restaurant professional.

This presence, both in Portugal and around the world, attests to the exceptional quality of Costa Verde’s porcelain. On the other hand, it contributes to the reinforcement of the brand as a business partner in the areas of restaurants and hostelry.
