Energy management is currently an activity that warrants special attention. A rigorous knowledge of how energy is consumed and its respective costs, worked through a fundamental tool to optimize energy efficiency and profitability, leads to a reduction of energy costs and, consequently, an increase in competitiveness and sustainability.

The implementation of the energy management system translated in the recent ISO 50001 standard issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), shall provide a new standardization reference in regards to energy efficiency.

The integration of the standard ISO 50001 (planned for the end of 2014), along with the standards ISO 9001, 14001, OHSAS 18001 as well as SA 8000, simplify the incorporation during the implementation of an energy rationalization process by the organization.
